Research Institute Community Advisory Council
The Research Institute Community Advisory Council is a decision-making body composed of community representatives and institutional leaders, designed to foster a truly bidirectional partnership. It serves not only as a forum for shaping research institute priorities and strategic direction, but also as a vital channel for community members to bring forward their perspectives, needs, and priorities. The first inaugural council was launched in December of 2025 and convenes six times per year at rotating Lurie Children's and community sites.
Through this ongoing exchange, the council ensures that institutional decisions are grounded in a deep understanding of lived experiences, so research is shaped collaboratively rather than developed in isolation. By promoting transparency, trust, and mutual accountability, the council strengthens both the relevance and quality of our work, ultimately broadening our reach and impact on the children and families we serve.
Together, our 14 community and 5 institutional representatives form a multidisciplinary council that brings together perspectives from research, healthcare, education, faith-based organizations, government, and community-based sectors. They also bring forth a wide range of expertise, including state and federal policy, youth advocacy, mental health, and food access and nutrition. council members serve communities throughout Cook County and more than 40 Chicago neighborhoods, with an emphasis on the South, Southwest, West, and Northwest sides.
