Clinical Research Informatics

Clinical informatics seeks to bridge the gap between healthcare professionals and the electronic health record. The Clinical Research Informatics team at Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute seeks to advance the pediatric research community by leveraging the electronic health record for innovation and discoveries in research. Our team’s research and clinical informatics expertise will help you navigate the electronic health record and its products for research. We leverage Epic tools—such as Cosmos, SlicerDicer, Reporting Workbench, Registries, and MyChart recruitment—to support efficient data discovery, analysis, and study design for pediatric research at Manne Research Institute. We also collaborate with investigators to integrate these tools into grants and proposals, strengthening the data infrastructure behind their research.

The Clinical Research Informatics team also partners with the Office of Clinical and Community Trials to leverage the expertise of both teams and ensure that overlapping services are supported effectively. There is significant internal collaboration between our teams for most services, however below you will find some services specific to the Office of Clinical and Community Trials:

Core Services

  • Consultation Services: We are here to provide guidance and education on clinical informatics topics in research such as Slicer Dicer, Epic functionality supporting research, and Epic Cosmos. For projects that do not have a well-defined request or build, we recommend requesting a consultation first.
    • These services are free. 
  • Project Services: We can provide help with well-defined research clinical informatics projects.
    • These services are billed at our hourly rate. 
  • Grant Development: We work with you during the design and development stage of your research project to create a plan for your clinical informatics needs.
    • These services are free assuming the Clinical Research Informatics team is budgeted in the final research proposal. 

Specialty Services

We can help identify where certain Epic data are located to ensure that your data queries are accurate and effective, or help prepare the facilitation of quantitative science data extractions.

The Clinical Research Informatics team partners with the Office of Clinical and Community Trials to set up MyChart Recruitment in Epic to help identify and recruit study participants.
