The Consortium for Technology & Innovation in Pediatrics
The Consortium for Technology & Innovation in Pediatrics (CTIP) is a pediatric medical device accelerator located at Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Established in 2011 and initially funded by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Pediatric Device Consortia grant program in 2013, CTIP promotes the commercialization and clinical use of pediatric medical device technologies. The Consortium received Pediatric Device Consortia awards in 2018 and 2023 to continue the research and development of MedTech for children (grant number: P50FD007963, PrincipaI Investigator: Espinoza).
CTIP addresses a critical gap in pediatric device innovation: the simultaneous engagement of clinicians, engineers, regulators, hospital administrators, patients, and the business community in assessing and developing technology. For portfolio companies, CTIP fosters networking opportunities, provides direct and indirect financial support, and offers guidance on a range of issues including, but not limited to, intellectual property, prototyping, engineering, testing, grant writing, and clinical trial design. CTIP’s network encompasses 25 organizations across eight states, including children’s hospitals, academic institutions, accelerators, and incubators.
CTIP aims to maintain a needs-driven pipeline of pediatric medical devices and to develop successful models that enhance the likelihood of commercializing these devices for children. The Consortium provides feasibility analysis tools, resources, and services, while also assembling and educating teams. CTIP is committed to advancing the commercialization of pediatric medical devices by serving innovators and companies and engaging clinicians, engineers, patients, and the business community in the assessment and development of novel technologies related to pediatric care. The Consortium continually seeks to strengthen its relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders, including the medical device industry, hospitals and medical centers, innovators, parents, and patient advocacy groups. Since its inception, CTIP has supported over 200 pediatric devices, and its active portfolio currently includes over 100 technologies and pediatric medical devices.

Pediatric Device Innovation Symposium
CTIP hosts the Pediatric Device Innovation Symposium as an opportunity to bring together the MedTech community and focus on critical issues in pediatric medical device innovation. The annual event serves as a catalyst to highlight successes, discuss challenges, nurture innovation, and create targeted networking opportunities. The event takes place at the Lurie Children's and Northwestern University medical campus in Chicago. Attendees include clinicians, researchers, startups, data scientists, investors, professional organizations, and industry partners. Access the presentations from the 2024 symposium. If you are interested in exhibiting at or sponsoring the 2025 symposium, contact info@ctipmedtech.org.
