FAQs for Students
We encourage students interested in applying to the Katz & Manne Research Institute Summer Scholars Program to review the Frequently Asked Questions below. Any additional questions can be sent to kmscholars@luriechildrens.org
Students in their undergraduate career who will have completed 1 year (i.e., their freshman year) as of June 2024 and those who will still be full time undergraduate students at the start of Fall 2024 are encouraged to apply. If you are unsure if you meet requirements, email kmscholars@luriechildrens.org
Students should expect to receive an update on their application status between late February and early March 2024. For information on the status of letters of recommendations, we encourage applicants to reach out directly to their letter writers for updates.
Unfortunately, we are unable to support international students in the program this year.
Letters of recommendation will be accepted from previous or current instructors, professors, employers and/or mentors.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer housing accomodations to those participating in the program at this time. All housing arrangements will be the responsibility of the student.
The program is 8 weeks long, beginning June 17 and ending August 9, 2024.
Due to mentor availability, it is possible that you may not be matched with one of your top three mentors. However, you will have the opportunity to interview with potential mentors prior to matching to ensure that the pairing is a good fit.
At this time, students accepted into the program will need to come to Lurie Children's at least 30 days prior to June 17 to complete their onboarding requirements. Any travel expenses such as airfare or hotel will be the responsibility of the student.
If a student is accepted into the program and has not received a vaccination or immunization based on medical contraindications or conflicts with specific religous beliefs, a request for exemption must be submited. For instructions please email kmscholars@luriechildrens.org
