  • Nephrotic syndrome
  • Podocyte disease

Vidhi Dalal, MD, is a pediatric nephrologist at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Her research interests involve nephrotic syndrome and podocyte disorders that affect a large subset of children with kidney disease. These patients often require multiple immunosuppressive medications to control their disease, and many are resistant to all existing treatments. Caring for these children and witnessing the challenges faced by them and their families drives Dr. Dalal’s research endeavors. She seeks to better understand podocyte biology and inform the development of new therapeutics for more effective treatment of podocyte disorders.

Education and Background

  • Fellowship in Research, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine 2021–2022
  • Fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine 2018–2021
  • Residency in Pediatrics, New York Presbyterian Hospital–Weill Cornell 2015–2018
  • MD, Yeshiva University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine 2015

Research Highlights

Dr. Dalal is currently working on elucidating the role of a protein called TCF21 in podocyte development and health and the mechanisms that govern the production of TCF21 in podocytes. She will ultimately evaluate how these physiologic processes are disrupted in patients with podocyte disease.
