Yue-Yung Hu, MD, MPH, is a pediatric surgeon and a health services researcher. She is a faculty member of the Surgical Outcomes and Quality Improvement Center and the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Hu’s research focuses on surgical education and the surgeon workforce. She is a co-Principal Investigator of the Surgical Education Culture Optimization based on National comparative Data (SECOND) Trial, a cluster-randomized controlled trial of 212 general surgery residency programs seeking to understand and intervene on trainee well-being. Supported by the American College of Surgeons and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the SECOND Trial has demonstrated a pervasive lack of inclusion, particularly for women, racial and ethnic minorities, and LGBTQ+ people, in surgical work and learning environments.
